My Mother’s Many Deaths

Pasquale, the narrator of «My Mother’s Many Deaths» , explains what life is like with her mother, an opera singer. She tells us about her mother’s many faces and the characters she plays. Sometimes her mother is kind, sometimes she’s cruel. She tells us about the different lives her mother slips into and the deaths she dramatically enacts. Pasquale has come to learn that these deaths are not real. Even so, it’s not always easy to lose her mother to the stage. Because Pasquale likes her mother most of all when she’s simply there for her.
